It changes every month. It isn't safe to wander too far off into the ship, so I usually stick to two floors up from whatever's occupied. [ A slight pause, and the objective approach loses some steam, concern slipping back into his tone. ] Are you— [ Scared. It's a stupid question, and the only reason he almost asks it is because this is Sally. Sally's dealt with worse, right? She's died how many times, decomposed right in front of them—
But she watched him shift, too. Knows how much he's hated it. Going by his example, there's nothing about it that isn't terrifying. ]
[ wow, she... almost forgot about Superwolf, she's been with regular Josh for so long. ] That sounds great. [ she sounded a little too relieved there, so: ] I mean, not great, but. Better.
It'll help. [ Big talk, all things considered. It's terrifying no matter what, and you still feel alone, but at least company makes it easier to pretend otherwise up until the change starts. ] What about Aidan?
Don't tell him? [ the request comes too quick, so she pauses deliberately before she tries again. ] It's just... kind of complicated. He'd want to know how and why, and that loops back around to a whole bunch of things I'd feel so much better if he just didn't find out about. [ she knows this is weird, that they usually tell aidan everything. it's doubly weird for her, she and aidan have had zero secrets for weeks now. but that's not this aidan, and everything's just one big stupid mess to try and explain. ]
[ There's a long pause. When he responds, there's no judgment in his tone, though he doesn't sound particularly thrilled. ] You know he's going to find out anyway, right? After you change, maybe before. He'll be able to smell you.
I know. [ she grudgingly admits, and judging by her tone she's probably tucking her knees up to her chest. ] Just... let me have this, okay? Even if it is for like two weeks.
[ His official opinion at this point is that secrets are total bullshit, but it's not like he's one to talk. He knows what it's like to keep this one, and that sympathy's enough to quiet any uncertainty. Her curse, her secret. If she wants a few more weeks of "normal", he's not going to take that away. ] Deal. Just promise me you'll keep me in the loop, alright?

[ a beat, then a little more awkward. ]

That can't possibly be a real name.
