[He slides out from under her legs and leans over her. It looks like he's about to kiss her, but he looks to the side and gives Buttons a pet with his finger. He looks back to her, giving her cheek a soft kiss.] I'll think about what you said. I promise.
[ but now he's moving, and while she knows he's shifting closer, she doesn't quite realize how close until he's just above her and reaching to stroke at the hedgehog. by now she's let her weight lower back down off her elbows and onto the bed, and there's definite eye contact being made here.
and she hears his words, and they're important, very important, but her reply still comes a little belated. after a long couple of seconds of further eye contact: ] You'd better. [ in this proximity, though, it's not much more than words on a breath. ]
[It's intense, the air between them, the breaths they're sharing. He keeps his eyes on hers as she speaks. He wants to be better. He wants to think of himself as a good person.
But mostly, in this moment, he's thinking about Sally. Good, kind, hilarious, beautiful Sally. And god, he's been trying to hold back on kissing her, but he wants to. He really wants to. So-
-he does. He shoots forward to kiss her hard, with an intensity he hasn't shown before, with a fire that screams how much he likes her, wants to kiss her, his hand tight on her hip.]
[ and she can't help it, her next exhale's a grin against his lips despite her best efforts to suppress it, but it doesn't last long. then she's kissing him back, one hand slipping up around the back of his neck while the other slides down his side. the hip he's gripping lifts a little, just enough to bend her leg so her foot's flat on the bed and her thigh's resting against his. ]
[ and she's matching his intensity pound for pound, kiss for kiss, because while his kisses may not be air, some part of sally is losing herself somewhere deep in this moment. when he leans closer, she's tugging a little more at the hand wrapped around his side so he'll occupy any remaining space between them. as if there's some way to pull him straight through her and fill up that stupid aching hole where loneliness nests as soon as she's alone.
and she's shifting a little to face him even more head-on, her head just about setting back down on the pillow when something lets out a distinct alarmed squeak!! ]
Shit - [ she breathes sharply without quite breaking the kiss, but then it's definitely breaking in favor of lifting up a little to look over the hedgehogs in concern. they're eyeing her in a sort of accusatory alarm, but it's decently obvious that they're both okay. so she's exhaling a breath of relief, letting her head drop down to the pillow (definitely clear of the hedgehogs this time) to catch her breath from the kiss for a second or two. not without looking up at him though, with an eye contact much less intense but definitely all kinds of affectionate. it's worth noting that she still hasn't quite thought to put any space between them. ]
[He doesn't quite understand at first, probably looking quite stupid in his surprise at the squeak. But he figures out the noise, looks to make sure they're okay, and then he lets out a breath of laughter.
He's still frozen in place, but he has a soft smile on his face. His stomach is leaping in nervousness now, but he's so glad he just went for it, that his impulsiveness paid off. He brushes a piece of hair out of her face, his hand soft on her cheek.]
[ the touch on her cheek has her closing her eyes again, and the fingertips still on the back of his neck tug a little to let him know there's enough room on the pillow if he wants to set his head down too. ]
You could totally stay for a little while, if you want. [ she offers quietly, because sometime in the next couple of minutes is normally when excuses are made, the 'i should probably get going' or something like it which directly follows the exact kind of silent overthinking he's so great at. ]
[He hesitates. It would be easier to just run away, to deal with the butterflies in his stomach on his own and shut down until then. But it makes him feel good that she's offering, like she wants him to stay.
He sets his head down on the pillow gently, his expression still soft, almost adoring.] Okay. I want to.
[ she scoots her head a little closer now to give the hedgehogs even more personal space, resting her temple against his forehead again. and after a second, she says: ] You should tell me cop stories. [ any of them, she's not picky. she just feels like listening to him talk about something, and that seemed like an interesting option. ]
[He looks away thoughtfully for a moment, then looks back to her.] Okay, I've got one.
It starts with the murder of a sexbot manufacturer. We found him in a hotel room. Shot once in the chest, DNA bomb, and the murderers wore flash masks.
[He's about to go on, but he's not sure if she knows those terms.] Do you know what those are?
A DNA bomb is a little sphere that you roll into a room after you leave. It releases a bomb that leaves DNA unrecognizable, so basically no fingerprints, no bodily fluids. Flash masks are a spray that you can spray on your face. For a few hours, cameras can't pick up your face; it's like a flash in the camera where your face should be.
So you can see how that would make our investigation hard. We looked at the security cameras and saw them in the elevator with the sexbot after the murder. But, get this, when she touched the wall? The DNA we picked up belonged to a missing woman. Somehow, this sexbot was leaving this woman's DNA.
[He pauses for dramatic effect, but his story is definitely not over.]
Well, Rudy, our tech, had a theory. He thought the people who made her used human DNA to make her skin. The synthetic skin usually used by sexbot makers isn't as soft as real human skin. But he said he'd have to get his hands on one to be able to tell for sure.
Another woman was kidnapped, but this time, they left behind her son as a witness. He told me what kind of car the kidnappers drove. Dorian and I went to go talk to the victim's former partner. After some sharp questioning by me, he offered up one of his biggest clients, an Albanian company.
So we went to the Albanian company's nightclub to see, but all the sexbots there were clean. No human DNA. A dead-end.
But fear not! Valerie located the kidnapper's car, and Dorian and I pulled it over. Inside was a driver and a sexbot, with human DNA. I questioned her with Dorian, and she linked the man at the Albanian club to the human DNA racket. We raided the place... but the missing woman wasn't there.
Time for more of your ~sharp questioning~? [ it's teasing but barely. she really is interested in how this goes down. it's like the plot of some kind of sci-fi cop movie, complete with a whole bunch of unnecessary robo-cleavage. ]
The main guy wasn't around, presumably at the lab where they were getting the woman's DNA and transferring it to a sexbot. So it was all riding on Rudy and the sexbot we caught earlier. He accessed her memory files and found a location. We busted in there, took down the bad guys, and saved the day. The woman was fine, and I got to see her reunited with her boy.

He can't help but feel a rush at her touch, her hand at his neck feeling like fire. He kisses her eagerly, his body leaning closer to hers.
The touching, the kissing, the closeness... it's a lot and his mind is spinning and all he can do is kiss her like her kisses are air.]

Maybe sometimes. I at least was to that kid. His name is Victor. I hope he's okay.
